PROCESS: EXTERIOR
Houses from this period and style typically had fancy metal work at the top of the facade, just below the roof, called the ‘cornice’. About four years ago the cornice fell off of Circle House. Above the side porch you can see some of the lost original detail. After removing most of the existing tin and shoring-up the existing framing, it was time to start anew. One of the challenges was marrying the new cornice framework to the existing tin and framing, which sagged in the middle. Notice Mark’s ingenious use of some salvaged stainless steel kitchen mixing bowls as detail elements in the new cornice.
There was also some masonry first aid to be done. Mark added some new mortar to several portions of the exterior wall
